My past tutoring experiences include tutoring an 8th grader in algebra since math was my strong point in high school and then tutoring my friends in math and english. I scored a 1200 on my SAT before the scores changed a few years ago (I'm not sure what the new scale is). I want to be a tutor because I enjoy teaching and I have a lot of patience. I also like helping people and am interested in learning. I've always liked school and, to this day, I enjoy going to class and learning more. Most of my classes I am taking at UCSD are arts classes since my major is Visual Arts. More of my general education classes are probably more relevant. I took many anthropology courses as well as english, sociology, psychology, journalism, political science and others. I think I would make a great tutor because I am patient and I am good at breaking things down so people can better understand them. I've just enjoyed tutoring in the past and I think it would be a great job for me while I'm getting my degree.

Hobbies:

I am currently in the search of finding a job that I will actually love and enjoy. I feel that tutoring or teaching will be the perfect opportunity for me, taking into consideration my experience and my passion to tutor and teach.

In the past, I have tutored and taught middle school, elementary, and pre-kindergarten children. I've volunteered as an after-school tutor at a local community service center. At this center, I helped children with their homework and read with them. In addition, I also served in my church as a preschool Bible teacher. Every Sunday I would lead worship songs, crafts, and Bible story time. Through these volunteer activities, I was able to gain a love and a passion for tutoring and teaching children and I look forward to continue tutoring and teaching in the near future.

In addition to directly working with children, I have also taken courses in child development and parenting. Through these courses, I believe I have gained a thorough understanding of children's learning processes.

Though I may only have experience with tutoring younger children, I am also more than open to tutor high school aged children, whether it be with school work, SAT or AP preparation, or with college applications. I've scored pretty well on the SAT I's and SAT II subject tests, as well as the AP Calculus AB, AP English Literature, and AP European History exams.

Hobbies:

I enjoy learning just as much as the student does. Whether or not I've seen a type of problem a number of times, its always been enjoyable for me to help a student envision their own solution to a problem. I like to hear a student's response after they figure out how to solve a problem. Very often in fact, I find through them, new ways to think about and solve the problem. It is just as much as a learning experience for me as it is to them. I often hear my friend thank me for how much easier it was to take their test.

Being a tutor will allow me to understand what students have trouble on. It will strengthen my responsibilities as a role model teacher and gain further understanding with the difficulties that lie with the subject.

I have taken most, if not all, undergraduate university-level courses in calculus, physics, chemistry, biology, and psychology. I am especially skilled in high school algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus. If needed, I can also train them in calculus courses. However, I do prefer training them in courses before calculus. I can also help explain material in biology and chemistry courses as I studied in Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

Hobbies:

I like to keep the atmosphere pretty open, making sure that the student is making the most of their time spent learning. I like to spend time with the student making sure that they are engaging and interacting with the material being taught.
